In this paragraph find instructions to install all files and start working with Composer Bridge. We also offer support in 2 ways, read along to find more.
Installation
Here is a set of instructions to get you started with Composer Bridge:
Once you download and unzip the Composer Bridge assets you’ll have the following files and folders:
- 001 – Lemur – Composer Bridge – demo v.0.1.0.jzml
- 002 – Digital Performer – Composer Bridge – demo v.0.1.0.dpdoc
- 003 – Digital Performer Key Bindings – Composer Bridge – demo v.0.1.0.dpkeybind
- 007 – DP – Window Sets – Composer Bridge – demo v.0.1.0 (FOLDER)
- Put assets 001 and 002 in a folder that you will name “Composer Bridge” in a location of your choice.
- Click the “Finder” icon on your dock. And select “Go to Folder…” in the “Go” menu.
- Copy & paste the following location in the location field ~/Library/Preferences/com.motu.DigitalPerformer/ and after clicking “Go” a new window will pop-up. Paste the file you’ll find inside asset 007 in that window (this will overwrite existing window sets).
- Launch Digital Performer and open a session (it’s not important which session at this stage).
- Select “Commands” in the “Setup” menu.
- Look for a small arrow pointing right (the mini-menu) in the “Commands” window and click it.
- Click “Import Key Bindings…” and select asset 003 from the location you chose in point 1. WARNING: this will substitute your current commands with a set specifically designed for Composer Bridge. If you have customised DP with your own commands we recommend to save them for back-up purposes before importing the Composer Brdige ones. To do so click “Export Key Bindings…” in the “Commands” window mini-menu.
Setup
All your assets are now in the right place. Next we’ll explain how to setup your software.
Make sure the latest versions of the following software applications are installed on your computer: MOTU Digital Performer, Lemur Editor and Lemur Daemon, NATIVE INSTRUMENTS Kontakt.
Digital Performer (part 1)
Let’s setup our Control Surface options. In the menu “Setup” select the “Control Surface Setup…” option.
Choose “Open Sound Control” as your Driver and type a value of 8000 in the Input Port field. Then click the + sign to setup an additional driver. This one will be a “Mackie Control” Driver and Unit with “Daemon Input 1-1” set as Input Port and “Daemon Output 0” as Output Port. PLEASE NOTE: the Daemon inputs and outputs will be available only AFTER you have installed the Lemur Daemon application on your computer.
Next we need to create a MIDI input where Digital Performer can receive MIDI data from different applications. This is easily done by recalling the “Interapplication MIDI…” option in the “Setup” menu.
Once there focus on the “Inputs” section and click on the “Add” button. An input labeled DP Input will appear in the inputs list field, as shown above.
Good job, you have successfully setup Digital Performer to work with Composer Bridge. Next…
Lemur
Launch the Lemur Editor application on your computer and load asset 001. Now click on the play icon on the top right portion of the Lemur Editor window. It will open the “Connection” pane. Now launch Lemur on your iPad.
The “Connection” on your Lemur Editor will show your device and give you the option to send the Lemur session via Wifi or USB cable (if connected). Select your device and click on the button labeled “Connect”. You don’t need to repeat this step as once transferred the Lemur session will be stored on your iPad.
Composer Bridge takes advantage of two powerful communication protocols to interact with your music: OSC and MIDI. Let’s see how to setup your device’s targets correctly in Lemur on your iPad.
To open the targets settings tap on the gear icon on your Lemur Composer Bridge Project on your touch device. Next tap on the A settings section will slide up. Focus on the area labeled “MIDI TARGETS”.
Set the MIDI targets as follow (add as many MIDI targets as needed):
- Target MIDI 0 — From: Network Session 1 — To: DP Input
- Target MIDI 1 — From: Daemon Output 1 — To: Unassigned
- Target MIDI 2 — From: Daemon Output 2 — To: Unassigned
- Target MIDI 3 — From: Daemon Output 3 — To: Unassigned
- Target MIDI 4 — From: Unassigned — To: Daemon Input 7
- Target MIDI 5 — From: Daemon Output 5 — To: unassigned
- Target MIDI 6 — From: Daemon Output 0 — To: unassigned
NOTE: you can use your iPad either tethered via USB or wirelessly by connecting to the same network your computer is connected to.
Now let’s focus on the settings section labeled “OSC TARGETS” Depending on whether you want to use your iPad tethered to your computer or via WIFI the OSC address you need to input in the will be different.
If you are using your iPad through a WIFI connection input your computer internal IP address. You can find it in the “Network” pane inside your SYSTEM PREFERENCES, as shown in the picture above.
If you are using your iPad through wired connection launch the application SYSTEM INFORMATION and navigate to the section labeled “Network”.
Your wired IP address will be shown near to the device type in the Active Services section, as shown above.
Now that you have located your computer IP address type it in the OSC 0 – Host field in the OSC Targets section of Lemur on your iPad.
Type a value of 8000 in the Port field on the righ. Tap “Done” in the right top corner and you are ready to read the next section.

Composer Bridge is a working-prototype. We won't continue its development for the time being. Should any update become available in the future they will likely not be included with the purchase of the current build.
Since ease of customisation wasn't the main focus during the design phase, adapting it to your own setup may require a high degree of proficiency with all the following applications: Digital Performer, Vienna Ensemble Pro, Kontakt, MIR, Keyboard Maestro, Lemur Editor on your computer and Lemur on a touch device.
You will need to install the latest version of all the above applications in order to run Composer Bridge on your setup as shown in our videos. We have no affiliation with the software companies developing said applications and it will be your responsibility to purchase a valid license for each.
It is possible to adapt the touch interface component to a setup that does not include all of the software (thus limiting Composer Bridge functionalities) but we won't be able to offer dedicated support for such a scenario other than during the 1-to-1 sessions included in our Support tier.
We advice to carefully consider whether or not to purchase the current build of Composer Bridge to those who don't feel having proficiency with the listed applications.
Aside from the above-mentioned applications, you will need your own collection of virtual instruments as none is provided with Composer Bridge.
This build of Composer Bridge has been developed and tested on Apple hardware, therefore support specific for Windows machines will not be provided at this stage.
No refund will be issued once the assets have been accessed.
IMPORTANT: the purchase of this build of Composer Bridge does not include support!
If you are already a subscriber you can access your Composer Bridge assets and resources here.
